Are you constantly in survival mode?
It seems that life gets faster, streets get busier, more screens and phones can find us and demand our attention, more to do, do, do… our senses are on alert ! As a result, many of us are continually living in survival mode.
To survive, our body has an innate survival behaviour called the fight-flight response. When faced with danger, this automatic response either makes us take flight and ‘run’, or ‘fight’. Today, in such fast paced life, this adrenaline response is triggered by perceived stress or anticipated stress, even though there may be no real danger or risk of harm, like a lion about to pounce on you.
Adrenaline is released to be able react to stress quickly, but prolonged release of adrenaline can cause other health issues. These include anxiety, digestive disorders, insomnia, memory/concentration problems and fatigue. Kinesiology can be very effective to destress the body and mind, and to help reprogramme the automatic fight-flight response to switch off, only to be triggered when in real danger.
Deepak Chopra talks more about the effects of stress and why not to be an ‘adrenaline junky’. The Conscious Lifestyle – Facing Your Stress
